About
Mariposa Kids offers play-based, out-of-school time programming that includes playground use and sports. The program combines unstructured play time with planned activities that take place both inside and outside. It offers free play-based programming through an After-School Program, Holiday Camps, and Summer Camps.
• Ages: 1–11 years old
• Schedule: Drop-in program at the Bernal Heights Clubhouse on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:30am–12:30pm
• Price: This new Children & Family Program is free for young children to engage in play
Mariposa Kids provides play-based out-of-school time programming for children ages 5–11 in the Mission District of San Francisco and a Children & Family Program for children ages 1–5 that is free for young children to engage in play. The drop-in program at the Bernal Heights Clubhouse is first come, first serve with a maximum of 10 children at a time, and caregivers must stay on site at all times. Programs are centered around safe space, free play, and community.
The mission of Mariposa Kids is to support and inspire children’s natural curiosity and independence through free play during their out-of-school time. Mariposa Kids has been recognized as a finalist for Non-Profit of the Year in the SF Chamber of Commerce 2024 Excellence in Business Awards, is a THRIVE ZONE recipient from the Golden State Warriors, and received the 2025 Consumer Choice Award for Business Excellence - Summer Camp.
Community Thrift Store is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that partners with Mariposa Kids and other Bay Area charities to provide an opportunity for revenue via in-kind donations to their shop in the Mission. By increasing access to safe outdoor space, Mariposa Kids promotes outdoor activities that include playground use and sports so that children increase their average time outdoors on a daily and weekly basis. Mariposa Kids also includes public space activation, family engagement, and leadership growth for children, teenagers, and college students.
