About
Mariposa Kids offers play-based, out-of-school time programming that includes playground use, sports, and other free play activities. The program combines unstructured play time with planned activities that take place both inside and outside. It offers free play-based programming through an After-School Program, Holiday Camps, Summer Camps, and a Children & Family Program where young children engage in play.
• Ages: 1–11 years old
• Schedule: Drop-in program available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:30am–12:30pm
• Price: This new Children & Family Program is free for young children to engage in play
Mariposa Kids states that its mission is to support and inspire children’s natural curiosity and independence through free play during their out-of-school time. The program centers its offerings around safe space, free play, and community. It promotes outdoor activities, including playground use and sports, so that children increase their average time outdoors on a daily and weekly basis.
Mariposa Kids has been recognized as a Finalist for Non-Profit of the Year in the SF Chamber of Commerce 2024 Excellence in Business Awards, is a THRIVE ZONE Recipient from the Golden State Warriors, and received the 2025 Consumer Choice Award for Business Excellence in the Summer Camp category. Community Thrift Store, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, partners with Mariposa Kids and other Bay Area charities to provide an opportunity for revenue via in-kind donations to its shop in the Mission.
