Community Music Center (CMC), founded in 1921, is a nonprofit music school and performance space with branches in the Mission and Richmond Districts. CMC makes high quality music accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, regardless of financial means, and offers a generous tuition assistance program. At Community Music Center, the stated belief is in the power of music to connect people, celebrate cultures and transform lives. CMC partners with many organizations across San Francisco to provide music programming for all ages. Camp CMC is described as an ensemble camp for young musicians, with students grouped into ensembles by instrument and level, and a maximum of 25 students working in large and small ensembles. Instruments for Camp CMC include all instruments and voice, with prerequisites of a minimum of two years of study on an instrument and concurrent enrollment in private lessons, or chorus or glee club for vocal students, plus a 2–3 minute video of a scale and favorite solo piece submitted to the camp director as a placement audition.
