Rhythm & Motion Dance Program was founded in 1979 by acclaimed dancer, teacher, and choreographer Consuelo Faust and has offered classes for over 40 years. The program is led by founder Consuelo Faust, director Dudley Flores, and instructor Rebecca Setziol. All Rhythm & Motion teachers draw from a shared body of choreography inspired by an eclectic mix of music, including Latin, hip hop, African, alternative, and R&B, and the choreography includes styles such as ballet, contemporary, African diaspora, salsa, hip hop, bhangra, jazz, and more.

The program states that anyone can dance and describes its classes as accessible, high-energy dance workout classes that encourage celebration, exercise, and community. It describes its atmosphere as welcoming and accepting and states that it promotes health and well-being for people regardless of age, ability, or background, emphasizing the joyful spirit and open expressiveness of dance in daily life for individuals, friends, families, and the larger community.

Rhythm & Motion Dance Program partners with ODC School and offers classes in its home studio at ODC Dance Commons as well as in satellite locations that include Motion Pacific, Berkeley Ballet Theater, and Bodyvox Dance Center. Motion Pacific is described as the premier center for dance in Santa Cruz, a nonprofit dance education and presentation organization where students from toddler to adult participate in over 1,500 classes per year and more than 20 dance workshops are hosted annually. The program states that it believes trained, professional dancers are the best people to pass along the power of dance and that it is committed to providing performing artists, dance instructors, and choreographers with steady, part-time employment.

Student Tamar S. describes Rhythm & Motion class as “a spiritual experience” and “the power of people dancing,” and student Katie Z. states that she has “never moved like this before” and that the classes and instructors have “truly changed” her life.
