About
theCoderSchool offers private and semi-private coaching, coding classes, robotics, Python, Scratch, and video game coding. The program runs as an after-school drop-off and virtual coding school for kids learning to code.
• Schedule: After-school program with in-person drop-off and virtual options
Founded in 2013, theCoderSchool was later founded in 2014 as a company headquartered in Silicon Valley. The leadership team includes Hansel, who created the Code Coaches® mentoring philosophy, and Wayne, who focuses on corporate schools and franchise support. The program follows a mentoring approach from experienced Code Coaches, with a super-small student-to-teacher ratio that is typically 2:1.
The mission of theCoderSchool is to teach kids to code and to explore AI technologies that are becoming part of everyday life. The program states that every child is unique and that students receive personalized guidance from experienced Code Coaches. It focuses on creativity, problem solving, and confidence, and includes instruction on how AI works, how to use it responsibly, and how to think critically about technology. The program uses the phrases “Learn to code. Change the world®” and “Learn to Code, Change the World®,” and states that the future will be more dependent on technology.
theCoderSchool runs a National Top App of the Month program, where each month a top app is selected from hundreds submitted nationwide by its students. It is described as the largest coding school in Silicon Valley, with more locations planned around the country. As a longtime partner of the Congressional App Challenge (CAC), theCoderSchool supports coding and app creation across the country and plans to collaborate with CAC beginning in 2025–2026 on a national recognition program to identify a handful of top applications from thousands of student submissions.
Parent testimonials describe customized curriculum, engaging online classes, helpful coaches and staff, and kids enjoying Scratch camps and creating games. These testimonials come from parents in New Jersey, California, Georgia, and Connecticut.
