About

Vida Verde Nature Education Overnight Environmental Education Program is a 3-day overnight program where students take a long hike in the Redwood Forest, participate in a Night Hike, and spend time at a Farm & Goat program. The program also includes a visit to the Coast, campfire time, and several Camper Choice periods, with options such as cooking dinner, an extreme hike, crafts, making ice cream, and an extended camper choice block on the last day.

• Ages: 9–12 years old
• Schedule: One 3-day session (Tuesday–Thursday) during the school year

Vida Verde offers one program a week during the school year, with a basic 3-day itinerary that includes group arrival on Day 1 at 10 a.m., tent camping, meals with cleanup, and a closing circle, group picture, and goodbyes before departure on Day 3 at 1:30 p.m. Schools provide transportation to and from the program, two to three adult chaperones, and a small batch of groceries, while Vida Verde provides transportation during the trip in 15-passenger vans and supplements the groceries that schools bring. The program is offered to schools where 85% or more of students receive free or reduced-price lunches and do not otherwise have an overnight environmental education opportunity in grades 4–6, and post-program classroom curriculum and grant resource information are available. Family and guardian presentations are available upon request at the school or via Zoom, with handouts in English and Spanish and the option for translation support. The leadership team includes Paula Alves (Business and Office Manager), Harmony Ma (Director of Events and Administration), Romy Colombatto (Development Director), and Shawn Sears (Executive Director).
