About
BCS Youth Soccer Program offers soccer practices and scrimmages for youth players. The program holds organized soccer activities that include game-style scrimmages as part of its regular practices.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Practices take place on Saturdays when there is Chinese School, from 2:00pm to 4:20pm.
The goal of BCS Youth Soccer Program is to develop and deliver quality youth team athletics for BCS students in a fun, family-like environment. BCS Youth Soccer has limited openings for all teams and uses a sign-up, not try-out, recruiting system. As long as there is space on the team, every child who signs up can join, and the program tries to create a recreational environment in which every child plays, especially in the younger age groups.
All coaches believe in building soccer skills and self-worth through encouragement and teaching, and they promote positive behavior on the field and on the sidelines. The program promotes a “Trying your best!” attitude to encourage better self-esteem for each player. Berryessa Chinese School is a non-profit, community-run school where parents are very involved.
The manager, secretaries, and coaching staff are all parent volunteers who have supported the program for the past 20 years. The coaching group includes Frank Teoh, Henry He, Ray Lin, Peter Luu, Wayne Lee, and Seong Teh, with coaches emeritus Thomas Teh-Ming Hsieh, Miles Xu, Michael Chin, Yong Yu, Simon Chu, Toby Wong, Andy Tran, and Vincent.
Families are asked to make sure players bring enough water, use sunblock, and take empty bottles home for recycling. It is suggested that players bring a hard shell cooler labeled with the player’s name, which can also be used as a seat and helps prevent mix-ups with other players’ water. All players need to wear a team jersey, dark-colored (royal blue) shorts, shin guards fully covered by socks, and soccer shoes, and no player can participate in scrimmages without shin guards.
