Waterworks Aquatics San Jose-Bascom provides private lessons, semi-private lessons, Parent & Me lessons, stroke clinics, and adult lessons in 20-minute sessions, with stroke clinics in 40-minute sessions, and adult semi-private lessons also in 20-minute sessions. The program uses a specialized muscle memory teaching technique and focuses on breath control, buoyancy, basic water safety, and stroke development. Professional swimming instructors work closely with students from 3 months through adult, with 1:1 or 2:1 student-to-teacher ratios in lessons and a maximum 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio in stroke clinic. Parent & Me classes are offered for children 3 months to 36 months alongside a parent or caregiver. Families are instructed to grab a swimsuit and get excited when starting lessons. A referral program is available in which a friend receives $20 toward their first swim lesson purchase and the referring family earns a $20 credit when the friend enrolls, with no limit to the number of referrals and the program applying to swim lessons only. Families can create a free account to access schedules, program information, and payment options with no obligation and no commitment.
The mission of Waterworks Aquatics is to educate and motivate individuals to be safer and learn proper swimming technique. More than 25,000 applicants seek to join the team annually, and a rigorous process is used to ensure children are taught by passionate, highly qualified instructors. The organization notes awards it has won and has been in operation from 2004 through 2026.
Parent feedback includes reports of children swimming with no fear and learning to backstroke by the third class, a child swimming the length of the pool and floating on his back solo after the first lesson, and a child becoming water safe and swimming on her own in a few short weeks. Other parents describe this program as showing at least twice as much improvement as other programs they tried, and one parent reports a 4-year-old progressing from not knowing how to swim to swimming all four strokes and joining swim team in under a year.
