About
Generation Music & Arts Academy Programs offers Performance Lab Lessons, Instrumental Lessons, and Ensemble Classes in areas such as piano, violin, guitar, voice, bass, and woodwinds. Students can also take part in Chamber Orchestra, Ukulele Group, Dance, and Spoken Word. Performance Lab Lessons are recommended as the starting point for students age 6–10 and are described as being suited to students motivated by peer interaction, game-learning, and teamwork, while Ensemble Classes are performance-based and explore in-depth study of musicality and technical ability, with each student encouraged to explore their individual style as well as small chamber ensembles.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday–Saturday, with quarters running fall (12 weeks, September–December), winter (10 weeks, January–March), spring (10 weeks, March–June), and summer (11 weeks, June–August)
• Price: Performance Lab Lessons: $55 / 60 minutes (minimum of 2 or 3 students). Instrumental Lessons: $40 / 30 minutes; $50 / 45 minutes; $60 / 60 minutes. Ensemble Classes: $35 / 60 minutes (minimum of 5 students).
All programs run on a quarter system that aligns with most school calendars, and enrollment is ongoing, with registration available at any time. Students in each program have the opportunity to perform twice a year in June and December, and due to the pandemic, students are able to perform via Zoom during the performance series. Billing is done quarterly, and payments are made in the portal, over the phone, or by sending a check to Generation Music & Arts Academy.
Generation Music & Arts Academy is recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The organization was formerly known as Dandan Performing Arts Center. The mission statement is, “Our mission is not what we do, rather the difference our actions make,” attributed to Cynthia Goco-Nakar, GMAA Founder & Former Executive Director. These ensembles perform concerts and community events, and Generation Music & Arts Academy states that it recognizes that it is living and working on the ancestral land of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay Area, and that the land of San Lorenzo is the homeland of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe.
