Academy of Creative Theatre (ACT)

The Academy of Creative Theatre (ACT) offers year-round theatre classes, camps, and performance opportunities for young artists ages 3-18. ACT Classes run after school twice per week in six-week sessions, and the program also includes ACT Camps, Fall Performance Class: A Christmas Carol, Teen Company: Musical Theatre Concert Edition, and Winter Break Camps.

• Fall Performance Class: A Christmas Carol — Best for students with performing experience; ages not stated · Mondays & Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00pm · $600 · Nine-week class with auditions, rehearsals, tech rehearsal, and performance as part of ACT’s Holiday Showcase.
• Teen Company: Musical Theatre Concert Edition — Ages 13+ · Mondays & Tuesdays; 5:00pm-7:00pm during the listed class dates · $725 · Advanced class with mentorship from local theatre professionals and guest-artist workshops.
• ACT Camps — Ages 3-18 · School-break camps; year-round · Camps for CA’s Central Coast, including school-break camps.

About the provider

ACT has been in operation since 1947. Its leadership team includes Kerry DiMaggio, Education Director; Shannon Peters, Assistant Education Director; and Rachel Tietz, Assistant Education Director. ACT says that programs and projects supported by City of San Luis Obispo funds are open and accessible to all otherwise qualified members of the public without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

Thanks to generous grant funding, ACT offers partial and full tuition scholarships for all of its programs. Spring 2026 classes are listed as coming soon; Teen Company is sold out and wait list information is provided.
