About

CAPSLO Migrant and Seasonal Head Start (MSHS) offers educational services along with health and nutrition services and behavioral health services. The program provides these services in a center-based setting or through a family child care option, close to where families live and work. It focuses on the child’s overall health and development and cares about the family and not just the child.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Schedules that accommodate the long hours associated with agricultural work
• Price: no-cost child care and preschool services

Since 1981, CAPSLO Migrant and Seasonal Head Start has provided child care programs with the needs of migrant farm working families in mind. The program provides high quality, no-cost child care and preschool services to eligible families whose income must primarily be earned from the agricultural industry. It serves families with children from birth through age five, with some additional services for pregnant women, and welcomes children with special needs. It operates in agricultural communities in nine counties: Fresno, Kern, Monterey, Orange, Santa Barbara, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura. The program provides comprehensive or wraparound services including educational, health and nutrition, and behavioral health services, and helps parents increase their confidence through education and program involvement opportunities.
