Since 1991, Central Coast Gymnastics and its preschool gymnastics coaches and owner have been developing, learning, growing, designing, creating, and inspiring movement and development in young toddlers. The gym offers programs from preschool classes and crawling to advanced gymnastics programs, including gymnastics for boys and girls, gymnastics classes for first through fifth grade children, and middle and high school classes for girls. It provides T&T classes for boys and girls of all levels ages 5 and up and acrobatic gymnastics classes for girls and boys ages 5 and up. Central Coast Gymnastics is described as an award-winning facility with a clean, welcoming space and a commitment to safety and excellence, and it is described as more than a gym and as a community where members become part of a larger family.
Central Coast Gymnastics is led by owner and CEO Mimi Phene-McKellar, who is also referred to as the gym owner. Cheer coaches are described as experienced, credentialed, hard working individuals. Across all programs, the stated mission is that every child has a place to develop a strong and passionate sports foundation that they can apply to any sport of their choice in the future, with an emphasis on encouragement, resilience, and the joy of learning. The gym is described as one of the few gyms in the nation with six competitive teams: Boys and Girls DP Artistic, Girls NGA, Trampoline and Tumbling, Acrobatics, and Cheer.
The program uses a progressive curriculum in gymnastics and offers age-appropriate instruction tailored to each child’s unique potential. Athletes are described as learning life skills such as determination, work ethic, perseverance, teamwork, and dedication, while coaches foster loyalty, trustworthiness, creativity, and motivation through a positive and encouraging training environment. Families can use a parent portal for registration and enrollment. Kids’ Night Out (KNO) includes fun gymnastics stations, themed activities, crafts, interactive games, pizza, snacks, and a movie.
One parent shared that their daughter has been enrolled at Central Coast Gymnastics for about three years, participates in gymnastics and acrobatics twice a week, and “absolutely loves it here,” describing the coaches as loving their job, being gentle and kind with the kids, and calling it the “Best gymnastics gym in the central coast! 10/10.” Another testimonial describes Central Coast Gymnastics as standing out as a beacon of excellence and community, with a nurturing environment fostered by gym owner Mimi Phene McKellar and a culture where this is described as not just a gym but a community where members become part of a larger family.
