Youth Leadership Conference

Youth Leadership Conference is a 6-day leadership conference that focuses on transforming youth into advocacy leaders. During the conference, students are introduced to the building blocks of leadership through the Youth Leadership Conference program.

Future Leaders of America (FLA), which runs the Youth Leadership Conference, states that its mission is to develop youth resiliency and leadership to create long-lasting systemic change by empowering and mobilizing youth leaders to advocate for policies that improve their lives and the lives of their peers and their communities. FLA’s community involvement includes youth-led policy initiatives in areas such as Housing Security, Youth Wellness Coalition, A-G For All, Tobacco Prevention, Safe Zones, and Mental Health.

Testimonials from participants describe their experiences with the Youth Leadership Conference and FLA. One participant, Julianna Ornelas from the Carpinteria Chapter, says that after attending the Youth Leadership Conference, she wanted to be on the council and be part of creating change in her community. Another participant, Kimberly Castro from the Santa Maria Chapter, describes FLA as more than a club and calls it a family filled with people who accept members without judgment. Jesus Ramos from the Port Hueneme Chapter describes a summer leadership camp with FLA as an enlightening experience that went beyond expectations and notes that FLA provides a supportive and empowering environment. Anna Lucia Munoz from the Santa Barbara Chapter shares that being part of Future Leaders of America has given her a space to grow over three years and that she plans to carry FLA’s teachings with her after graduation.
