About

Spanish Nature Club is a bilingual forest school and outdoor Spanish immersion program where children climb trees, find bugs, spot wild animals, splash in the river or creek, look for figures in the clouds, and play games. Spanish is introduced naturally through songs, storytelling and story time, nature journaling, art projects, watercolor painting, mini-Spanish lessons, and reading and writing practice at each child’s own pace and level. The program also offers nature-based camps and classes, including preschool, afterschool, summer, and adult programs, and includes exposure and time in nature with friends.

• Ages: 0–18 years old

Spanish Nature Club describes its mission as facilitating an outdoor, child-centered and play-based educational program that integrates nature exposure and Spanish immersion to help children build a bond with nature and one another while planting the seed of a second language. The program is led by Lisset Orozco, a native Spanish teacher and nature-awareness instructor, who created Spanish Nature Club in 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. Lisset holds a B.A. in Politics & Social Sciences from UAM, a Diploma in Education and Cultural Integration, has worked as a research assistant at the UNAM Institute for Social Research-IIS, is bilingual in English and a native Spanish speaker, is CPR and Wilderness First Aid certified by NOLS, and is fingerprint cleared. The program is fully insured and is a member of the California Association for Environmental & Outdoor Education. One parent, Jessica C., states, “We adore this program and cannot recommend it highly enough! My son and daughter both loves spending time with Lisset on her adventures! Lisset has such a wonderful way with littles and shares her love of nature and Spanish. I love that they’re getting outside time and Spanish language!!!”
