The mission statement of Spirit Gymnastics states that many students and teams attend gymnastics and tumbling classes with goals such as learning and performing back handsprings and back tucks, and that the coaches aim to help fulfill those goals. According to the mission statement, the main concern of the coaches is the safety and well-being of each student, and they do not use the “chuck it” method in training. The mission statement explains that coaches start with basic skills and drills, train flexibility and strength, and use many different drills to prepare the body and mind so students can perform skills with confidence. It also states that skills may seem to progress more slowly but are expected to result in clean lines, bigger and better tricks, more permanent skills, fewer chronic joint problems and pulled muscles, and reduced risk of falling on the head, neck, or face. The mission statement notes that the goal of helping students attain their goals is important to the program, that coaches will not compromise safety and well-being for a gymnastics or tumbling skill, and that their methods are described as proven effective and evidenced by former and current tumblers, gymnasts, and cheerleaders.
