• Schedule: Outdoor training in the park in Orcutt on Saturday mornings when the weather permits

Lead Instructor Jim Risinger has over 40 years of martial and healing arts training and is recognized as a Grand Master or Hanshi through the Independent Karate Schools of America. He is a Shidoshi in the nine schools of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu) and received the honorary warrior title Oni Ku Daki, or “Demon Crusher,” from Soke Masaaki Hatsumi. The dojo is a traditional martial arts training hall with Japanese style woodwork designed and built by Jim Risinger, and many custom practice weapons are designed and made for students. Training at the new location in the Santa Maria area is by invitation only, and students are asked not to just show up but to wait for an invitation.

The program’s mission is to inspire students to find peace, health, and happiness through self-discovery using ancient wisdom and modern-day understanding toward the goal of assisting each individual in becoming a more enlightened being, fully able to live a life of power and abundance. Rising Sun Martial Arts Academy focuses on assisting each individual toward personal goals of self-improvement and self-defense for practical, real-life situations and emphasizes a Buyu of “warrior friends” who support each other rather than competition between fellow students. The program serves families from Santa Maria, Lompoc, Los Alamos, Nipomo, Orcutt, Guadalupe, Buellton, and Vandenberg Village.
