Swim with Heart offers year-round swim instruction, swimming lessons, and competitive swim team training. The program also mentors swimmers with special needs and focuses on personal connections, setting goals, and achieving them while having fun. Instructors specialize in breaking through barriers by mentoring swimmers with special needs and emphasize replacing the words “You Can’t” with “Yes, I Can!” or “Yes, you can!”

Swim with Heart was founded in 2010 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It offers year-round swim instruction and competitive team training to residents of Santa Monica and the surrounding area and has worked with nearly 1,000 swimmers and their families. The mission of Swim with Heart is to teach swimming that cultivates courage, community and independence as well as physical and inner strength, and it provides programs and services that present physical activity and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
The founder of Swim with Heart is Michael Flaherty, called Mikey by all, who is a world-ranked swimmer and was a member of the University of Southern California’s NCAA 1997 championship team. The leadership and coaching team includes Michael Flaherty (Mikey) as founder and coach, along with coaches Floyd Delfin, Ava Freeland, Nick Waters, Ben Rigby, Daren Crawford, and Ian.
