Traditional American Karate (TAK), the system taught at Trad Am Karate, is an eclectic martial arts system based on shorin-ryu, shotokan, and kung fu, and it incorporates techniques from judo, jujutsu, aikido, American Karate, kenpo, and kickboxing. Weaponry is included in TAK's martial arts catalog. Traditional American Karate began in Southern California in 1982, and Sensei Floyd Burk trained with Bill “Superfoot” Wallace in Corona 39 years ago. The leadership team at Trad Am Karate includes Sensei Floyd Burk, Sensei Martha Burk, Sensei Chrissy, and Sensei Ron. The program states a mission to teach practical martial arts for empowerment and improved fitness, to support parents in encouraging kids to develop positive attitudes and cooperate with siblings, to focus and work hard at their school studies, and to learn safety skills to help kids avoid strangers and be safe. Trad Am Karate is associated with Independent Karate Schools of America (IKSA), and Sensei Floyd Burk is connected with Black Belt Magazine. The program describes its approach as fun, fitness, and self-defense in a family friendly environment, with low month-to-month fees and no long term contracts, and uses the phrase “the family that punches and kicks together, sticks together.” The Martial Arts Gear/Supply Store is open Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Thursday until 8:30 p.m.) and Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
