Some girls also take part in a week-long back-country trek.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekend camp typically lasts for two days and one overnight; travel camping is over a period of three or more nights; resident camp is for three to fourteen days and nights, with an average of five nights
Weekend camp is for girls in kindergarten and up. Resident camp is for girls who have finished kindergarten and uses the resources available at Camp Wasiu II, with girls planning activities together with their counselors or volunteers. Travel camping is for experienced girls and adult campers and involves traveling from one site to another on foot or by motorized or non-motorized transportation and staying at different campsites.
Camping in this program follows the mission that camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Girls are under the guidance of caring, trained adults. Girl Scouts can focus their whole Girl Scout experience on getting outdoors, and outdoor resources for volunteers include videos and other materials.
Through the Girl Scout Ranger Program, the National Park Service and Girl Scouts connect girls with National Park Service sites across the United States, including monuments, seashores, and urban sites. Girl Scouts can design their own Girl Scout Ranger Program project that aligns with a Girl Scout Journey, various badges, or a Take Action project. Girls who successfully complete Girl Scout Ranger Program projects receive Girl Scout patches and certificates from the National Park Service.
