The camp is designed for players in grades 8–12 and includes 10 hours of on-court collegiate-style practices and match play. All camps are taught exclusively by current college coaches from NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA schools and levels of the game, and players receive instruction and training from college coaches representing all these levels. Coaches run college-style practices similar to those they run with their own teams, and the format allows coaches and players to interact and train together. Campers can sample various coaching styles, get to know the coaches on a personal level, and take part in in-class educational and motivational seminars about life as a student-athlete, including time management for balancing sport, academics, and social activities, and understanding the recruiting process and steps to earn a spot on a college tennis team. The camp provides in-class seminars to motivate and educate players on how to prepare for college tennis, and includes a T-shirt and prizes. Camps and clinics are open to any and all entrants, limited only by age, gender, grade level, or number of participants. Daily lunch is included for all campers, and participants and families provide their own hotel accommodations.
The leadership team for this camp session includes college coaches from multiple schools: University of Redlands (Mike Longanecker), Johns Hopkins University (Michael Herman), Villanova University (John Jayakumar), Oberlin College (Eric Ishida), Ithaca College (Tom Rishcoff), Washington College (Constantine Ananiadis), and Emerson College (Burke Paxton). The stated goal of the camp is to continue each player’s development while immersing them in and exposing them to a competitive college tennis environment, with technique evaluated and addressed and a focus on preparing each player’s game for college tennis.
Parent and camper testimonials describe past Collegiate Exposure Camps as “an awesome experience” with “rigorous days of training,” exposure to players of different ages and coaches from many places, and an “excellent opportunity” that was “a very easy way to network.” One camper reports leaving camp “a much better player” and planning to attend again, while another mentions learning “tremendous techniques” and appreciating “inspirational speeches of knowledge.” A parent notes that the camp “lit a fire” in their child’s motivation to play, and another parent states that their son “had the best experience” and “enjoyed every minute of it.”
