South Gator Basketball Club offers basketball training along with athletic skills development, conditioning, and weightlifting. The program also includes mental skills training, mentorship, and exposure to enrichment activities such as arts experiences, multicultural events, empowerment conferences, interactive workshops, camps, symposiums, forums, panel discussions, and Zumba. Participants have access to injury prevention, immediate care and rehabilitation for injuries, and college preparation, as well as scholarships for higher education or professional training.
Founded in September 2017, South Gator Basketball Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Its stated mission is to empower women and youth through health, arts, and mentorship, and to foster leadership and teamwork among youth through sports. The mission also includes providing mentorship and educational opportunities, supporting children, youth, women, and families in underfunded and underserved communities, fostering a sense of community through basketball, building mental resilience, and inspiring aspirations for higher education. The club offers emotional, academic, and financial support to boys and girls basketball programs, individual athletes, and other sports programs in South and East Los Angeles communities, including through the Daniel Garcia Scholarship Fund. South Gator Basketball Club offers members affordable, subsidized basketball training and occasionally provides scholarships to high-level student-athletes with collegiate potential, and donations to the organization are tax deductible.
South Gator Basketball Club runs the TRIBE (Together, Rising, Infinitely, Boldly, Endlessly) Multicultural Women and Youth Empowerment Movement. Through its United Talent Initiative, the club combines sports and the arts to enhance the athletic and emotional development of underserved student athletes. The club sponsors and hosts empowerment conferences in English and Spanish.
SGBC collaborates with various nonprofit organizations and businesses to offer affordable or accessible services to children and youth in underserved communities and financially supports community programs and agencies in South and East Los Angeles. South Gator Basketball Club and The Basketball Doctors work together to provide expert-led injury prevention, immediate care, and rehabilitation to student-athletes from underserved and underfunded communities.
