About

World Tang Soo Do Association Region 20 offers training in Tang Soo Do, a traditional Korean martial art. Participants practice martial arts skills including self-defense, forms, breaking, weapons, health care, and meditation as part of their training.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

The program is part of Region 20 of the World Tang Soo Do Association, which is the official region of the Association in Southern California. Tang Soo Do in this Association is described as a traditional Korean art that reflects heritage and the value of a traditional way or path. Training in Tang Soo Do within this Association emphasizes five virtues: humanity, righteousness, etiquette, wisdom, and trust, as stated in its mission. The mission further explains that Tang Soo Do teaches physical techniques and trains students to practice the “DO” way of life through these five virtues, with the goal of reaching an ultimate level of “DO” and living in harmony with the laws of nature.

The World Tang Soo Do Association held its charter convention on November 13 and 14, 1982. Grandmaster Jae Chul Shin came to the United States in 1968 and formed the U.S. Tang Soo Do Federation in Burlington, New Jersey in 1968, and Region 20 was formed in 2002. The Association has grown to over 100,000 members in 36 countries.
