About

Pacific Summer High School Institute is a two-week residential pre-college summer program where students take courses and join evening and recreational activities. Outside of class time, the program offers movies under the stars, arts and crafts, esports, karaoke, swimming, basketball, and volleyball.

• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Two-week residential sessions, with the first session running June 1–11 and the second session running June 16–26

University of the Pacific, which runs the program, is California’s first and oldest university, founded in 1851, less than a year after statehood. The university is ranked in the top 100 national universities by the Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education and in the top 20 in the West. The program’s leadership team includes Director Dr. Balint Sztaray and Program Manager Faith Arano, who also host online Q&A sessions every Tuesday at 6 p.m. to share more information about the various programs.

Students choose from a wide variety of courses that cover performing and visual arts, health and science, engineering and technology, business and society, and athletics, and they study topics through real-world, hands-on experiences in labs, studios, fields, and makerspaces. During the program, students live in residential halls used by college students during the academic year, dine on Bon Appetit’s offerings in the DeRosa University Center Marketplace, exercise in the Baun Fitness Center, study in a newly reimagined library designed for 21st century learning and collaboration, and have nightly activities in NCAA Division I athletic facilities.

University of the Pacific is the Official Higher Education Partner of the San Francisco 49ers, and the two organizations work together on experiential learning, career growth, community impact, K–12 outreach, college-readiness efforts, and workforce development initiatives for Pacific students across the region.
