The Oakland Volleyball Program offers club volleyball that includes skills and drills, tournaments, Premier League Schedule competitions, special tournaments, and qualifiers. Players compete in club volleyball through the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) of USA Volleyball (USAV). The program offers tryouts in the fall with skills and drills as part of the process.
• Ages: 11–16 years old
• Schedule: Six-month club season from January to June, with 1–2 tournaments per month and practices generally on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6–9 PM
• Price: Most similar six-month club volleyball programs charge $4,000–$8,000; The Oakland Volleyball Program fees are $2100.
The Oakland Volleyball Program runs a full six-month club season from January to June. The program has been in operation for over 25 years and was established in 1998. For 2024, the only change is the name, as it was formerly known as Starlings Oakland.
The program’s leadership team includes Coach Erica for the 12s, Coach Amecia and Coach Mark for the 14s, and Coach Lisa and Coach Trish for the 16s. The Oakland Volleyball Program is made up of dedicated professionals and volunteers. The program currently does not offer a program for boys but is building resources and an interest list for a proposed boys team.
The Oakland Volleyball Program states a commitment to providing affordable volleyball programming in Oakland to those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in club volleyball at the Junior Olympic level. It states that it makes its volleyball program an affordable option for families who cannot pay the higher fees at other clubs and that it excludes no girl due to financial hardship. The program stands by its non-profit status and focus on benefiting Oakland and the volleyball community.
The Oakland Volleyball Program has partnered with the Oakland Athletic League (OAL) to provide resources, increase participation, and grow the sport of volleyball in the Oakland area. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, monetary donations to The Oakland Volleyball Program are tax-deductible.
