Sain Baseball Camp is led by Camp Director Grady Sain and Coach Zak Krislock. The coaching staff has years of experience working with young players in Torrance and the South Bay. Grady Sain was a 3-year varsity letterman and earned all-league honors while playing shortstop for West Torrance High, then continued his baseball career at El Camino JC, Chico State, and Azusa Pacific University. Coach Sain holds a BA in Physical Education and an MA in Physical Education/Administration from CSU Dominguez Hills, teaches Health Education, and is the PE/Health Department Chairman at South High School. Coach Zak Krislock is the Head Coach at Chadwick School in Palos Verdes Peninsula, previously served as the pitching coach at South High under Grady Sain, graduated from South High, and went on to The University of Oklahoma where he was named 1st-team all-Big 8 and participated in the College World Series. Zak was drafted by the Houston Astros, played 4 years of Minor League baseball, and is also a varsity assistant at Mira Costa High School during the football season.
The camp’s stated mission is to provide quality instruction of baseball fundamentals while fostering a positive attitude and appreciation for the game of baseball, with a focus on keeping children healthy, avoiding injury, and allowing each player to reach their full potential. The mission also states that the camp is preparing athletes for more than just the game of baseball and is dedicated to instilling values that will contribute to a child’s success in whatever they choose to do. Sain Baseball Camp is powered by Junior Spartans Academy, and the coaches have experience working with young players in Torrance and the South Bay, with the camp associated with Riviera Little League, TABB, and the City of Torrance as referenced in the waiver. Unique features include an emphasis on skills, teamwork, confidence, safety on and off the field, and encouraging kids to stay active and healthy. Players receive a T-shirt, certificate, and individual player evaluation, and registrations are accepted first come, first-served until a session is full. Sain Baseball Camp sessions will follow the LA County Department of Health guidelines pertaining to youth sports at the time of camp.
Families are asked to send campers with a glove, shirt, hat, bat, cleats, baseball pants, sweats, and a sack lunch, and there is a possible lunch option listed as TBD.
