SPACE is an acclaimed afterschool performing arts program and a 501(C)(3) public benefit organization. Its mission is to empower youth to discover and trust in their innate ability to be creative, responsible, and compassionate individuals through training in dance, theater, music, and cultural education. The leadership team includes Jin Jr Shi, Principal of Instilling Goodness Elementary and Developing Virtue Secondary Schools; Laurel Near, SPACE Executive/Artistic Director and Co-Founder; Olivia Zamora, director of Noche De Estrellas; and Juan Pablo Mora, music director for Noche De Estrellas. SPACE collaborates with Instilling Goodness Elementary and Developing Virtue Secondary Schools for the Synergy performance and features a multigenerational cast of more than 25 local artists and community members in Noche De Estrellas, including performances in Spanish and a celebration of Hispanic art and culture.

SPACE is described in testimonials as a vital beacon for hundreds of children and their families and as a place where students have participated in arts and leadership programs, including all-boys hip hop dance and Native American Plains Grass Dance. Former students report drawing on their years at SPACE in professional acting work, off-Broadway productions that included puppetry and rock & roll, and in teaching drumming songs learned at SPACE. Families and artists also describe long-term connections with SPACE, including children dancing throughout Ukiah Valley and performers returning from work in Hollywood to share productions at the SPACE Theater.
