About

UBC Geering Up Engineering Outreach offers hands-on science projects, design challenges, and other STEM activities through summer camps, year-round clubs, and events. The program also runs In-Classroom Workshops and Pro-D Workshops that focus on STEM learning, STEM education, and integrating STEM activities into classrooms. UBC Geering Up Engineering Outreach is a team within the Faculty of Applied Science at The University of British Columbia, with a mission to promote science, engineering, and technology to children and youth in British Columbia through fun, innovative, and hands-on experiments and projects. The program states a mandate of promoting science, engineering, and technology to youth across British Columbia and includes special outreach for groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. Programs for Indigenous Youth are created in collaboration with Indigenous community partners, and InSTEM programs work with communities across BC to promote STEM education. The program offers bursaries for camps and clubs, All Girls* Camps in Greater Vancouver and Kelowna, offsite camps, Kelowna camps, a Junior Instructor Program, a STEM Leadership Program, a Professional Development Program for educators, Pro-D Days, and locations in Vancouver, Kelowna, Port Coquitlam, North Vancouver, South Surrey, and the Richmond community. The mission also includes aiming to provide valuable work experience to employees and to enrich the university and the broader community. UBC Geering Up notes that it is situated on, learns from, and is inspired by the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-waututh) Peoples.
