About

Mulberry Tree Learning Center is a full time private preschool where children take part in activities that include yoga. The program environment includes outdoor classrooms, and children and staff walk around barefoot on the grounds.

• Ages: 2–13 years old
• Schedule: Year-round program, open Monday through Friday from 6:30am–6:00pm

Mulberry Tree Learning Center was founded in 1986 and launched 35 years ago. The school is comprised of 85 students between the ages of 2 through kindergarten and includes an after-school program serving kindergarten through 13 years old. The classrooms are named Twigs and Branches, Caterpillars, Butterflies, and School Age, and the property was once a fire station before it became a preschool. The program follows the philosophy of theorists such as Vygotsky, Piaget, and Dewey, with a mission to refine practices that come from Reggio Emilia, Italy, and is inspired by the Reggio Approach originated from Reggio Emilia, Italy. Its philosophy is based on a social constructivist theory that views knowledge as being built by the learner and is adapted to meet the needs of its specific community. Mulberry Tree Learning Center is an all inclusive school and welcomes children with special needs.

The program has a health conscious focus that includes mind, body, and spirit. Children are encouraged to try new foods, get connected to nature, attempt yoga, and use their words to identify feelings to promote strong emotional health. The environment is described as inspiring for children, and the space encourages exploration, communication, and collaboration. Children and staff feel connected to the ground as they walk around barefoot, and being barefoot is described as strengthening the feet and lower legs, developing a sense of body awareness and a direct connection to the natural environment, and enhancing proprioception, the sense of the relative position of neighboring parts of the body.

All staff members are fingerprinted and background checked prior to starting work at the facility, including FBI, Child Abuse, and DOJ checks. A video system monitors movement on the property, and each family has a unique code to enter the building, while anyone without a code must ring the doorbell to be greeted by staff. Parent tours are available Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 11:00am with no appointment necessary.
