At this program, riding gloves, elbow pads, knee pads, a bike, and a helmet are required, and pads and gloves can be purchased through the online store, with bikes available to rent for the week through the registration process. Campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface, and if a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, the camp may move the camper to a different program if space is available or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. Each camper is grouped by skill level, and the program is girls-only and designed for riders of all abilities, with campers learning the basics of bike park freeriding and having the opportunity to progress toward advanced skills on a variety of terrains and challenges. The program offers transportation to and from recreation areas and access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, and Avid4 Adventure programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17.
Girls Shred – Valmont Bike Park is mentored by experienced, friendly, qualified instructors, and Avid4 instructors are 18 and older with serious safety and skills training. The staff is described as incredibly well-trained and professional, and the leadership team includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.
Parent testimonials describe this as a favorite camp where one child progressed from training wheels to riding without them and where staff are mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with kids. Other parents report that their kids talk about camp long after it ends and are eager to return.
