About

Kick2Build Youth Soccer & Camps offers non-competitive soccer along with multi-sports, cultural arts, music, dance, and storytelling activities. The program includes parent games, music workshop activities, and live drumming from the Ghanaian culture before practice as part of its sessions.

Kick2Build Youth Soccer & Camps is a 501c3 Colorado non-profit organization focused on building inclusive communities and affirming diversity through sports, cultural arts, music and dance programming. The program is led by BIPOC coaches, artists and professionals. Its mission includes empowering youth and families through sports, cultural arts, music, dance and storytelling, and embracing cultural diversity, inclusivity, interdependence and affordability. The program describes itself as all-gender inclusive and offers fair pricing and scholarships. It features a non-competitive soccer program called Sankofa, warmups to African drumming, and a combination of arts and sports programming.

The leadership team includes Nana K. Boakye, CEO, Founder & Head Coach; John Welsch, Director, Competitive Soccer Club and Director of Soccer (Youth Club); Senan Merveil Kottin, Assistant Director, Community Programs & Coach; coaches Selasee Atiase, Keder Joseph, Kika Tuff, and Sarah Coronna; and board and club leaders including Richmond Boakye (Chairman), Jon Saints (Treasurer), Shazia Kikia (Member), Mekayla Beaver (Member), Casie Zalud (Member), Selasee Atiase (Member), Dana Romanoff (Member), Katie Todoroff (Secretary), Checho Santander (President, Youth Club), Jeremy Geer (Vice President, Youth Club), Bart Geerts (Treasurer, Youth Club), Christina Gardner-Shiflett (Board Member, Youth Club), and Sarah Dutton-Swain (Competitive & Grassroots Liaison). After moving to Boulder, Colorado in 2012, Nana started hosting soccer meetups, and in 2019 Kick2Build was created. John started the Competitive Soccer Club with Nana in 2021. Selasee has been with Kick2Build since 2019, Senan has been coaching there for the better part of four years, Keder and Kika have each been coaching for one year, and Spring 2024 is Sarah Coronna’s first season with the program.

Testimonials describe Kick2Build as providing a welcoming and inclusive space for an interracial family and supporting connection with Ghanaian heritage. Other feedback notes appreciation for the program’s community building efforts and focus on equity, and one parent states in Spanish that their child loved the summer 2023 camp. Additional comments describe participation as uplifting physically, emotionally, mentally and socially, and a teacher reports being impressed with the enthusiasm and multi-cultural opportunities during a school assembly that included presenters, soccer play, and following directions.
