Kick2Build Camps & Soccer Programs is a 501c3 Colorado non-profit organization focused on building inclusive communities and affirming diversity through sports, cultural arts, music and dance programming. It is led by BIPOC coaches, artists and professionals, and participants develop cross-cultural competencies and gain a sense of belonging and acceptance in an environment where people of all backgrounds, gender and ability level can come together to learn, grow and have fun. The program is led by a team that includes CEO, Founder & Head Coach Nana K. Boakye and Director, Competitive Soccer Club John Welsch, along with coaches and staff such as Senan Merveil Kottin, Selasee Atiase, Keder Joseph, Kika Tuff, and Sarah Coronna, supported by a Board of Directors and a Competitive Soccer Committee.

After moving to Boulder, Colorado in 2012, Nana started hosting vibrant soccer meetups, and in 2019 Kick2Build was born. John has been coaching in the Boulder area since 1989, and John and Nana started the Competitive Soccer Club in 2021. Selasee has been with Kick2Build since its beginning in 2019, Senan has been coaching at Kick2Build for the better part of 4 years, Keder and Kika have each been coaching at Kick2Build for 1 year, and Spring 2024 is Sarah’s first season with Kick2Build.

Kick2Build’s community involvement includes building a diverse and inclusive community through soccer and cultural programming and creative afternoon workshops hosted by local artists and community leaders. Camp Wawa is a fundraising program benefiting Kick2Build, supporting youth development through sports, arts, and community empowerment. Unique features of the program include high-energy drum-led warm-ups, cultural arts and creative workshops, end-of-week music and dance performances by campers, fair-pricing registration and scholarships, and a combination of sports with cultural arts, music and dance programming.

Parent and community feedback includes comments that Kick2Build has provided a welcoming and inclusive space for an interracial family and has helped them connect with their Ghanaian heritage and feel more at home in their community. Other parents note appreciation for Kick2Build’s community building efforts and focus on equity, and one parent shared that “A mi hijo le encanto el campamento que tuvieron en el verano de 2023.” Families and participants have described the experience as uplifting physically, emotionally, mentally and socially, and a teacher who observed a school assembly reported being impressed with the enthusiasm and the multi-cultural opportunities that students participated in.
