The Colorado Springs Vikings is a non-profit organization that offers youth ages 5–15 the experience to compete in national and local youth athletic leagues in Colorado. It offers both non-competitive (non-travel) and competitive programs, with non-competitive programs holding practices in Colorado Springs at Memorial Park or local school facilities, and competitive programs traveling to various locations in Colorado during the regular season and possibly outside Colorado for postseason national competition. Any child can register for competitive programs, even if they have never played before, and while more emphasis is placed on winning at the competitive level, the main objective remains skill development, fundamentals, and tactical strategies.
The organization serves youth primarily in Southern Colorado Springs school districts, including Harrison School District 2, Widefield School District 3, Fountain School District 8, Cheyenne Mountain School District 12, and southern Falcon School District 49. All members of the Board of Directors and coaches are volunteers and are not compensated, and coaches and seasonal staff are volunteers who put in many hours on and off the practice fields. The program is funded through registration fees, donations, sponsors, and fundraising, and all funds are put back into the program to pay expenses and make improvements, including repair and replacement of equipment and uniforms, field usage fees, equipment storage, insurance, merchandise for resale, end-of-year participant trophies, and other miscellaneous administrative expenses. Volunteers are welcomed and highly encouraged.
The Colorado Springs Vikings has been recognized as a GOLD Level USA Football League, and it has received this recognition for the second year in a row. Its mission is to provide a dynamic, diverse, athletic program which educates and prepares youth for a positive and productive future as it relates to life, with a focus on essential life skills such as discipline, character, integrity, sportsmanship, and teamwork. For Fall 2024, Pop Warner requires all players in the program to either have a 2023 or 2024 helmet or have an older (under 10-year-old) helmet that has been officially reconditioned.
