About

Rocky Mountain Theatre for Kids - The Actors Academy for the Performing Arts offers summer camps, after-school classes, and acting classes that include acting technique, jazz, tap, ballet, and private voice lessons. Students take part in professional productions, recitals, and showcases as part of the program’s theatre education and performance experiences.

• Ages: 6–18 years old

Founded in 1996, Rocky Mountain Theatre for Kids - The Actors Academy for the Performing Arts has been offering acting classes for kids for over 30 years and is entering its 31st year of summer camps at both its Boulder and Denver locations. Its mission is to empower the next generation of theatrical talent by delivering professional, high-quality theatre education and production experiences tailored to each student’s unique needs and capabilities, with programs that foster critical thinking, creative choices, and specialized guidance. The faculty are described as seasoned theater professionals and compassionate educators who care deeply about each child’s growth.

Parents and students have shared that the shows are “remarkable for their professionalism, beauty, and entertainment value” and that the work, including sets, choreography, costumes, music, and staging, is “truly spectacular.” A Boulder Daily Camera theatre critic noted that one of the program’s goals is to “challenge the idea of what children’s theatre is” by bringing artistic and cultural diversity to its productions. Students describe the Actors Academy as a place that has brought them happiness, given them freedom to explore acting and dance, and encouraged them to make their parts unique to them. The program states that it offers more than great shows by creating a home for young performers ages 6 to 18, with a high bar for performance and production set to uplift students, and that it offers belonging with high-quality productions, experienced faculty, and a deep commitment to youth development.
