About

Space Voyage Summer Camp and Maker Lab Camps include daily rocket launches, hands-on building and fabrication of Apollo Saturn V rockets using paper and cardboard, and crafting paper replica Saturn V rockets that students can take home in 36" and 84" sizes. Camp activities also include a Space Station Simulation, a Space Voyage Simulation, and Maker Lab sessions such as Maker Lab Food in Space, Maker Lab Artist, Maker Lab Learning Games, Maker Lab Inflatables, and Maker Lab Kerbal, along with Alpha Saturn V Maker Lab, Alpha Artist, Alpha Learning Games, Alpha Food in Space, Alpha Inflatables, and Alpha Kerbal 1 & 2. In group projects, students design their own space patches and have made shuttles out of food.

• Ages: 6–16 years old
• Schedule: Summer sessions with 7 weeks of camp in 2026, including 5-day and 4-day weeks; camp days run 8:00 AM–3:30 PM with arrival as early as 7:30 AM and free after care from 3:30 PM–4:00 PM; Maker Lab camps run 4 full days and Cadet Alpha programs run 4–5 days

Space Voyage Summer Camp and Maker Lab Camps are described as immersing students in “thinking like an Astronaut” or “Craftsman,” with a staff ratio of one staff member for every six students. The program includes a Pathfinder Program for ages 6–8, a Cadet Program for ages 9–14, an Intern Program for ages 14 and up, and Maker Lab Camps for ages 9–16, with Interns able to participate as paying participants or volunteers, and for some the Internship serves as an audition to be on staff. Maker Lab camps provide all materials, patterns, templates, and tools to craft the paper Saturn V rockets, and in 2025 these camps increase from 3 full days to 4 full days and offer the option to purchase additional rocket pattern templates to use at home. Alpha programs are described as less rigid than the more structured Cadet levels, with project-based expeditions that span the entire week, and students in Alpha programs are expected to be comfortable with independent work and basic time management; all Alpha programs are available every week of camp, and all programs and weeks are described as open and having availability.

Space Voyage is described as a STEM program that celebrates “The Arts,” and some describe it as a STEAM program that adds “Art” to STEM. The program states that it offers an intensive program of learning and confidence building within a space motif, brings to life the importance of math and science, builds confidence through genuine achievement, creates a sense of belonging, and offers a fun and fantastic place for kids to learn and grow. It is based on cooperative learning, learning teams, and project-based learning, and is described as immersive, competency based, empowering, hands-on minds-on, and high-tech higher-touch. Its stated philosophical pillars are to give every student the freedom to choose, the power to achieve, the feeling they belong, and fun, and it states that students learn discipline, focus, commitment, and perseverance. One testimonial describes Space Voyage as “one part Montessori School, one part Disney World, and one part Santa’s House.”

The program notes that Space Voyage summer camp allows Cadets and Interns to gain experience necessary to work on staff as Certified Instructors and Camp Counselors, and that Space Voyage Interns can volunteer to fulfill high school community service requirements. The program is described as being as fresh and as fun in 1987 as it is today, with Alpha programs a beloved part of Space Voyage Summer Camp since the mid-1990s. It is stated that Dr. (Doc) Palmere, the Dual PhD Program Founder, has been working on the Maker Lab for fifteen years, and that 2024 was the first year of the Maker Lab program. Doc Palmere is listed as the 2026 Camp Director and Program Founder, and the leadership team also includes a returning Flight Director, Sara.

Testimonials from participants and parents include statements such as “It was the greatest week of my summer! For five years in a row!” and “Space Voyage is amazing fun. One part Montessori School, one part Disney World, and one part Santa’s House. I’ll be back.” Another testimonial highlights launching 9-foot rockets and a “triple launch,” and a parent notes that each day their kids did new and engaging activities, including making shuttles out of food and designing their own space patches in groups, collaborating with other kids, and being held to high standards of being kind people, with the director talking to kids about everyday social skills, how to react, and how to greet adults.
