About

Junior Team Tennis is a team-based tennis program that includes practices and league matches. Players take part in practices and compete in the Colorado Tennis Association (CTA) league. Matches are scheduled, and teams that do not meet the minimum number of required players are given the opportunity to play internal matches.

• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: All matches are played on Monday; practice times are scheduled by age group on Monday mornings and early afternoons
• Price: Resident $275. Non-Resident $325.

Home matches are organized under the Columbine Knolls Recreation District, which was founded in 1964. Youth 8–18 who qualify as novice, intermediate, or advanced are invited to play, and players of similar abilities are placed on a team to compete against other teams in the area. Parents must provide transportation to matches played away, and players must sign up for a free USTA membership to participate. Tennis memberships connected with the program provide year-round access to the tennis courts at Marker Park and the CK pool for members and coaches, and members can walk on or reserve court times online five days in advance.

Junior Team Tennis is led by Youth Tennis Player Development Coach Wayne Applehans and Executive Director Kathy Wallace. Wayne Applehans brings over 40 years of tennis experience in Colorado and Washington State at the high school, intramural, and club levels. He continues to play tennis 4–5 times per week, competes at the NTRP 4.5/5.0 level, and has served as an ambassador for the Youth division of the Colorado State Open.
