About
Sunflower Farm Camps & School-Age Programs includes hands-on farm activities such as feeding and care of animals, gardening, and farm chores. Children take part in art, sand play, water play on hot days, and sled-riding on a sled hill and bonfire on cooler days. The program also offers time to climb haybales, jump from hay bale to hay bale, play and climb on old tractors, peruse an airplane, swing under cottonwoods, experience playhouses and sandboxes, explore tree forts, brush a llama, pet goats, sheep, and horses, soar down slides, and climb on a spider web.
• Schedule: Farmfest Summer Music Evenings are held most Wednesday evenings from May through August and on select Fridays in September and October.
Sunflower Farm Camps & School-Age Programs is part of Sunflower Farm, which is designated as an Educational Demonstration Farm and includes a licensed Preschool referred to as “Farm School” and a self-directed School-Age Farm Program without a set curriculum. The programs are described as giving each child a sense of rural, farm lifestyle, and children are divided into groups based on age and friend requests. The mission of Sunflower Farm is to cultivate an appreciation for farming, nature and a sustainable future by providing a place of mindful education and memories through daily farm routines, experiential play, family time together and stillness. Sunflower Farm has a history of community significance, with the Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Program founded in 2005 and official designation as an Educational Demonstration Farm on May 24, 2018.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Liz Napp for Sunflower Farm and Sunflower Farm Acres, Director of Educational Programs Hannah Gardener, and Farmfest Manager Katy Jergensen Gloege. Farmfest Public Hours operate on an intermittent schedule based on happenings at the farm and weather, and Farmfest Summer Music Evenings feature food trucks and local musicians. Sunflower Farm seeks to grow nourishing foods for the community and provide food to the community, and food trucks during Farmfest Summer Music Evenings support local food vendors and musicians. One Farmfest guest, Anne Judd, described the setting by saying, “My image of heaven looks just like this.”
