The program runs as a weeklong expedition backpacking summer camp built for campers looking for a backcountry experience, with a tight-knit group of up to 13 campers and 2 instructors. Campers may spend up to six hours a day hiking and exploring terrain, including longer hike days and layover days with light day packs to nearby peaks or high alpine lakes. Campers pitch tents, cook meals together on backcountry stoves, and learn to adapt to a range of weather conditions and environments, with a focus on backpacking best practices and interpersonal skills. The program lists a Difficulty Rating of 2 – Single Sport Specialty and a Wilderness Rating of 3 – Backcountry Wilderness Camping, with campers sleeping in backpacking tents without access to showers, toilets, or running water. All water is filtered from local water sources for drinking, hand washing, and food preparation, and campers learn Leave No Trace principles, including how to properly dispose of human waste. Campers carry group equipment, food, and personal gear, including an additional 10–25 lbs of food or group gear, and total camp hours are listed as 125. Campers get familiar with compact cooking, cleaning, and sleeping gear, camping basics like bear protocols and water treatment systems, and how to set up, break down, and pack equipment efficiently. Backpack rental is available for $40, and Avid4 merch is available with delivery at camp. Transportation to and from recreation areas is provided, and the program notes access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, programs that evolve with campers from age 3 to 17, top-tier staff as a key feature, and an emphasis on empowerment and helping kids push their boundaries. The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee offering a free future camp if promises are not met.

Instructors are 18 and older with serious safety and skills training, and Avid4 instructors are described as mature, responsible, and excited to be sharing their passion with kids. The leadership team has extensive experience in youth development, outdoor education, and operations, and includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, and that the organization was born out of a desire to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet.

The program is accredited by the American Camp Association, named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and is a Certified B Corp. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service. Parent testimonials from 2023 describe children learning activities such as stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking, including learning to ride a bike without training wheels, and refer to Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children. Testimonials also note that children were active every day, learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer, and that some campers were eager to return the following year.
