About

CenterStage Theatre Company Youth Programs offers theatre and musical theatre intensives, creative drama adventures, stage combat workshops, and musical theatre workshops. The program also includes virtual productions and outdoor performances, along with one- and two-week camps that focus on these theatre activities.

• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: One- and two-week camps offered throughout the summer

CenterStage Theatre Company Youth Programs offers one- and two-week camps for students in grades 2 through high school all summer long and welcomes young performers of all experience levels and abilities. The organization produces more than 15 shows every season, puts over 400 young performers on stage each year, and serves audiences of about 5,000 annually. Its Tapestry Theatre program puts actors with disabilities in leading roles alongside peer ensemble members and is described as one of the only programs of its kind in Colorado. Core values for the program include Inclusion, Artistic Excellence, Creative Passion, Character, and Community, and it describes itself as more than a theatre company, but a community built on shared experiences and lasting connections.

CenterStage Theatre Company was founded in 1999 and has been serving Boulder County for over 25 years, becoming a nonprofit in 2004. Tapestry Theatre launched in 2012, and the company opened its own 70-seat Black Box Theatre in downtown Louisville in 2018. In 2020, the organization pivoted to virtual productions and outdoor performances, and by 2022 it was producing eight shows in a single summer. Executive Artistic Director Steve Wilson brings over 25 years of nonprofit arts experience to the organization, and the leadership team includes founders Jeanie Balch, Karen Brown, and Amy Austin.

CenterStage Theatre Company partnered with Coal Creek Community Theatre in Louisville to produce its first show and is based in Louisville, Colorado while serving young performers across Boulder County. The organization reports more than 2,000 volunteer hours given by the community every year and offers partnership opportunities for sponsors to invest in young performers across Boulder County. The City of Louisville is exploring plans for a new performing arts complex, and CenterStage is in the conversation as a potential resident program in an effort led by Friends of Louisville Arts, Sciences, and Humanities (FLASH).

A parent testimonial from Kelly Demchuk states, “Our daughter has been performing with CenterStage for almost nine years, and it has truly been a second home for her. We're always impressed with the quality of the productions, but more importantly, we're grateful for the community CenterStage has created. It's a place where she's made her closest friends and always feels welcomed, valued, and excited to go to rehearsal.”
