Since 1986 the Mountain Kids organization has offered a wide range of dance and movement classes for toddlers, kids, and teens. Mountain Contemporary Dance Arts offers individually tailored, artistry focused dance training, with a dance program that focuses on the unique artistic, technical, and creative development of each dancer. The program is one of only a few schools in the state to offer a contemporary modern dance curriculum for all ages, and it is described as a place for family education in dance in Boulder County. Its professional and healthy dance curriculum reflects the evolving concert dance forms students will encounter at the collegiate and professional level, and the program focus is non-competitive performance and developing a deeper appreciation of the arts through collaboration and exploration. Mountain Contemporary Dance Arts also offers enriching experiences such as master classes and field trips to professional dance concerts in the community, and several professional dance companies are in residency. Studios are available for rental for dance, yoga, music, movement instruction, rehearsals, parties and private events, with discounts available for regular weekly rental with pre-payment and rehearsal rental available for discount or trade for non-profit organizations, including possible work trade, marketing, advertising, or tickets to performances.
The professional dance facility includes two large studios with sprung floors with marley, stereo equipment with CD players and MP3 connection, full length mirrors, ballet barres, and dance props for creative movement games, along with a lobby area for student observation. The staff is described as a team of professional, talented, motivating and mature instructors with advanced degrees in dance and education, years of experience and training, and a specialization in contemporary dance techniques and creative movement. Mountain Contemporary Dance Arts states that it is committed to cultivating each dancer’s unique potential through safe, positive, experiential, and enjoyable learning, and is dedicated to fostering dancers’ physical, mental, social and emotional intelligence. The program’s annual recitals fund local non-profits in Boulder County.
Parent testimonials describe positive experiences with staff, class offerings, and specific classes such as Rainbow Riders (PK), ballet/tap combo, and the Sweet Pea class. Parents mention staff who go above and beyond to teach essentials of dance in a fun and supportive way, instruction that includes correct posture, position, and vocabulary, and classes that keep children moving and engaged. Several parents note that their children love Mountain Kids and Mountain Contemporary Dance Arts, admire their teachers, and feel at home there, and one parent describes the program as a second family. Testimonials also highlight a non-competitive dance program offering a variety of technique classes, annual recitals for all ages, and instructors named Brion and Miss Sammy in Rainbow Riders and Sweet Pea classes.
