About
Ajax Sleepaway offers activities such as fishing, paddleboarding, slip and slide, camping trips, overnights, s’mores, hiking, campfires, stargazing, archery, rock climbing, ziplining, biking, arts & crafts, canoeing, and outdoor laser tag. The program offers nearly 100 different activities throughout the summer and admits a maximum of about 40 campers at any given time, with a staff-to-camper ratio of approximately 1:2. Ajax Sleepaway is a coed camp with separate boys and girls villages, and s’mores are offered every night.
• Ages: 8–14 years old
• Schedule: Session 1 (1 Week) June 28th - July 4th, 2026; Session 2 (2 Weeks) July 5th - July 18th, 2026; Session 3 (2 Weeks) July 19th - Aug 1st, 2026; Session 4 (1 Week) Aug 2nd - Aug 8th, 2026
Ajax Sleepaway has three cabins in a boys village and three cabins in a girls village, each divided by age, with insulated cabins that have bunk beds, mattresses, and decks. The camp facilities include enclosed showers that are open at the roof for stargazing and national park style tank toilets. Transportation is provided from Denver.
Ajax Sleepaway is part of Ajax Adventure Camp, which was founded in 2010 with the goal of inspiring awesomeness. Ajax Sleepaway was created in 2016 when a ranch opportunity presented itself in the upper Frying Pan valley, and in 2023, Oliver Umpleby moved from directing Ajax Adventure Camp to help launch Ajax Sleepaway. Ajax Sleepaway emphasizes that everyone should become their Camp Self, wanting kids to let loose, have fun, be themselves, find their passions, learn a ton (without knowing it), and laugh more than they thought possible.
The leadership team includes Founder Danny Hundert and Camp Director Oliver Umpleby. Danny Hundert earned his bachelor degree cum laude from Dartmouth College in 2007 and his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2016. Oliver Umpleby double majored in Economics and German and minored in Coaching at Miami University in Ohio; he coached high school football in the DC area for five seasons, taught skiing in Colorado including with the Aspen Snowmass ski school, and has served as athletics director and program director at a sleepaway camp in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
Campers are advised to pack comfortable clothes for outdoor activities and themed events, a sleeping bag, flashlight, and toiletries, with optional items such as a camera, journal, and a small backpack for hikes. The camp suggests packing in a duffel or plastic tote and states that if campers forget items, the camp will lend what is needed.
