The 2026/27 multi-week kids’ programs state a focus on fun, friends, and exploring the mountain with confidence. Programs are for ages 3–18, space is limited, and 2026/2027 program registration for new participants goes live on July 1, 2026, with programs opening for booking beginning July 1. Caterpillars offer small group learning and use games and activities to practice movement patterns and foster an appreciation for the sport. The Butterflies program is for new or progressing skiers or snowboarders with an experienced accompanying adult and allows young kids who are not yet old enough to ride a chair lift alone to experience more of the mountain. The Adventurers program focuses on building skill sets and techniques in skiing and riding to become all mountain adventurers, and participants have the opportunity to join an introduction to ski racing day and an in-house big mountain freeride event.
Competitive Development is for intermediate to advanced athletes with a focus on Freeride competition and uses IFSA competition fundamentals of the International Freeride Ski and Snowboard Association. Competitive Development includes a hike each training day to reach challenging terrain, and athletes are expected to participate in on-mountain mock comps, Town Challenge, and Cooper Cup Races, and are strongly encouraged to attend one IFSA Regional level 2* IFSA event. Ability levels in Competitive Development are assessed during the first session, and participants who do not meet the ability requirements are given the opportunity to join the Adventurers program. Monarch’s Freeride competition team trains for and travels to International Freeskiers and Snowboard Association (IFSA) Rocky Mountain regional and national competitions, and Freeride Team athletes are representatives of Monarch and are held to a high standard. Previous participation in Monarch’s Intro to Comp program, Freeride program, or proof of participation in an IFSA program from another resort is required for the Freeride Team.
Certified instructors and coaches are certified through the Professional Ski & Snowboard Instructors of America (PSIA-AASI), and the program includes IFSA certified coaches. Monarch Mountain notes it has been “Keeping It Real Since 1939” and is an Equal Opportunity Service Provider. Lift access and equipment are not included for Adventurers, Competitive Development, and Freeride Team, and participants must have a valid season pass or lift ticket and appropriate equipment for each day of the program. Participants in Competitive Development and Freeride Team are responsible for travel costs and lift tickets at offsite events, and 26/27 programs do not include the season pass. Cancellations are accepted 14 days or more prior to the start of the program for a refund, and there are no make-up days for missed sessions and no switching between days.
