Elevate Dance Center opened in January 2018 with four classes per week and a few founding families, and it now has about 300 students who attend any combination of approximately 40 classes a week. The school reports that its staff has over 50 years of dance experience and that it hires qualified, vetted teachers who use sound methods in a safe environment to deliver a rigorous curriculum. The mission of Elevate Dance Center is to change lives for the better through dancing, foster a lifelong love of dancing through well-rounded, age-appropriate and cutting-edge dance education, and promote wholeness and balance by nourishing dancers’ mind, body, and spirit. The program states that it values age-appropriate costumes, choreography, and music so that students can dance without fear of sexualization of children, and that it aims to become the go-to dance studio in its community by reshaping understandings of what is “normal” in dance studio life. Elevate Dance Center also states that if, after six weeks of dance, a family does not think the studio delivers on what is promised, it will refund the money and provide a $50 Amazon.com gift card.
The Elevate Dance Center Giving Fund is described as a scholarship fund that helps make sure dance lessons do not stop for Elevate Dance Center students who experience financial hardship. Financial assistance is determined by application and may be based on need and/or merit, and scholarships may cover any combination of tuition, fees, and other associated costs such as uniform, equipment, costume, and production fees for dance education at Elevate Dance Center. The program notes that if funding in this scholarship fund exceeds need, it may distribute funds to other organizations or groups within the dance community, such as Dancers Against Cancer.
Elevate Dance Center reports that it has been featured in several media outlets, including Go Solo, 9News Great Day Colorado, Colorado & Company, and Colorado Parent Magazine. One founding family, Monica and Emma, shared that they “love everything about this studio,” that communication is “in bite-size chunks and always relevant—but never overwhelming,” and that the child “never” says she does not want to go to dance and described changing studios as “the best idea we ever had.”
