Since 1939, the Jesse P. Sanford Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton has served tens of thousands of children and has been a familiar institution for more than 80 years. The Club was founded by Jesse P. Sanford, a former Judge, Redding First Selectman, and community leader, and was incorporated as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization in the 1940s. In 2011, the Board of Directors decided to include Easton in the official name “Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton,” and the organization is an affiliate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

The Club’s mission is to enable the young people of Redding and Easton, especially those who need the Club most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens, and to be a positive force for good in the communities. Programs are focused in five core areas: Character & Leadership, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, Education & Career Development, Healthy Life Skills, and The Arts.

The Club currently serves over 600 youth year-round, including about 300 in baseball and softball, more than 85 in travel basketball, 110 in field hockey, and 150 in newer programs that include wrestling and community service programs. Keystone and Torch Clubs are leadership and service programs for high-school teens and middle school students, and both clubs elect their own officers and select, plan, organize, and run their own community service projects. The Club proudly serves both Redding and Easton, with about 25% of participants coming from Easton, and is funded 100% from business sponsorships, personal donations, and program registrations.

Kids’ Night Out at the Mark Twain Library is hosted in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton and the Mark Twain Library, runs on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 5:00–7:00 PM, is a drop-off event where parents may drop children off at 5:00 PM and return at 7:00 PM, is free of cost, and requires registration because space is limited. For the RES Afterschool Program, transportation from RES is included, and pick-up is at Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton. Cartoon and Comic Club Session 2 meets on Tuesdays from 4:15–5:30 PM at the Boys and Girls Club Clubhouse.

The Club acquired approximately eight acres of open fields on Cross Highway near Black Rock Turnpike, where sports activities have been held since the early 1900s. New facilities opened in 2003, including a barn that houses an office, snack bar, and equipment storage, and a pavilion with picnic tables. Email contacts for the Club include [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected] for registrations and finance.
