About
YMCA Camp Otonabee focuses on outdoor activities that let campers spend time in the natural world. The program includes a variety of camp options that engage, inspire, and celebrate children’s interest in nature. Campers take part in programs that aim for them to acquire new skills, build self-confidence, and establish lasting friendships.
• Ages: 4–16 years old
YMCA Camp Otonabee offers Outdoor Day Camps for ages 4Y–11Y, Overnight Camps for ages 6Y–14Y, and Leadership Programs for ages 12Y–16Y. A Camper Care Program is available for ages 4Y–13Y and matches each participating camper one-on-one with a counsellor, with no extra fees for this support. Camper Care Program counsellors are not trained to help with medical equipment or procedures such as G-tube feeding or catheter care, and they do not provide washroom help, including lifting, wiping, or diaper changes. The Camper Care Program has a separate application and registration process, limited space, and applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, with each camper assessed independently.
All staff at YMCA Camp Otonabee are trained in first aid and CPR, and lifeguards are nationally certified. All staff must complete a background check and take part in an extensive training program. The camp states that experienced staff provide campers with the support, attention, and care they need while away from home. Families can attend virtual information sessions to learn more about YMCA Camp Otonabee and its programs, and a drop-in open house event is hosted in the spring where families can tour the camp.
