Headfirst Summer Camps has been the trusted choice for families across Washington, DC, Bethesda, and Northern Virginia for 30 years and operates camps for Bethesda, MD; Cathedral Heights, NW D.C.; Palisades, NW D.C.; and Oakton, VA. Summer 2026 enrollment is now open, and the organization notes that its curriculum blends imagination, hands-on exploration, and guided independence and is rooted in joyful, purposeful play in an environment where campers feel seen, known, and celebrated. The program offers a carpool line for before and after care, daily swimming, flexibility to change camp topics once registered, and photo updates for parents. Headfirst Summer Camps reports having twenty-five full-time and 700 seasonal team members and states that it lives to elevate its camps as a platform to teach kids about life and open up the possibilities for their future.

In the fall of 1996, Brendan Sullivan returned to DC and began The Headfirst Companies with a single baseball lesson on the fields of St. Albans School, and the organization cites ©2001–2025 Headfirst Companies LLC. Brendan Sullivan is the founder of Headfirst, and his background includes playing five professional baseball seasons after moving from the District to Stanford University and then into the San Diego Padres minor league system via the Major League Baseball draft. The stated mission of Headfirst is “To inspire the personal best in high potential kids.”

Parent testimonials describe great counselors, flexibility to a child’s needs, and a carpool line for before and after care, as well as flexibility to change camp topics after registration. Parents report that their children grew in skills in two weeks, that one child learned the backstroke in less than one week, and that counselors are caring, kind, and very well organized. Other feedback notes that families value the energy at carpool, swimming every day, photo updates, and that campers have been grouped with their friends, with one parent sharing that a camper who previously did not like summer camp asked to return after a week at Headfirst.
