The playDCgolf Academy, founded in 1989, serves over 4500 students annually and includes key participation by women and junior golfers. Its mission is to develop and serve life-long golfers of all ages and abilities by encouraging students to learn, practice and play in an environment that makes experiencing the game of golf fast, easy and fun. The Academy offers professional instruction at all levels through a large team of both year-round and seasonal instructors, with lessons offered for anyone and everyone, with options for all skill levels, ages, and genders. Programs are tailored to meet local community needs at each location, and the organization has experience in conceiving player development programs, instructor development programs, and establishing best business practices.

The Academy has a wide variety of clubs available for all age groups to use during lessons, and range balls are included and provided by the instructor for lessons; balls are also provided for lessons on the putting green, course, or practice holes. Lessons at East Potomac are held rain or shine with a covered driving range protected from the elements, and supervised practices are offered to make up missed group classes on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM and Sundays at 1 PM. Operation 36 teaches golf in reverse, starting everyone at level 1, 25 yards from the center of the green, and progressing through 6 levels until participants can shoot 36 from the full tee box; participants in Operation 36 can enroll at over 800 program locations and have technology to guide them.

The public golf courses connected with these programs feature historic public golf courses in the Nation’s Capital, with 9- and 18-hole golf courses and no strict dress code at the public courses. The organization states a commitment to keep the sport of golf accessible and affordable for all. The golf courses at East Potomac Park, Langston and Rock Creek are part of National Parks and were created to provide a space for sport and leisure, and 100% of the money spent at Rock Creek Park Golf, Langston Golf Course and East Potomac Golf Links is reinvested in these historic courses and the National Links Trust mission.
