About
First Coast Center for the Arts offers Movement for 2-3 year olds, Ballet/Tap combo classes for 4-5 year olds and 6-8 year olds, and classes in Contemporary, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Musical Theater, Jazz/Acro combo, Acro, Hip-Hop, and Jazz. The program also offers free trial classes from August through February, and placement private lessons for dancers ages 9-18.
Programs
- Movement — 2-3 year olds
- Ballet/Tap combo — 4-5 year olds · Part of the Movement/Ballet&Tap combo classes; designed for 4-5 year olds. Students learn basic but proper ballet and tap technique and vocabulary in a nurturing environment.
- Ballet/Tap combo — 6-8 year olds · Part of the Movement/Ballet&Tap combo classes; designed for 6-8 year olds. Students learn basic but proper ballet and tap technique and vocabulary in a nurturing environment.
- Contemporary — Technique strengthens the body and focuses on interpretation and musicality. Exercises include ballet and jazz positions, stretching, coordination movements, turns, jumps, and floor work.
- Ballet — Ballet technique focuses on placement, ease of movement and musicality. Exercises at the barre prepare for more complicated rhythms and combinations in the center.
- Pointe — minimum of 12 years old · Students must have permission of the instructor to be registered. Students must have had previous ballet training and be a minimum of 12 years old to be considered for placement.
- Tap — Tap technique explores rhythm, syncopation, and musicality, teaching dancers how to create sound with precision and style.
- Musical Theater — Focuses on performance, storytelling and character development through dance. Classes incorporate jazz technique, acting, musicality and stage presence.
- Jazz/Acro combo — The Jazz portion focuses on weight, rhythm, and sharp movement qualities. The acro portion focuses on agility, coordination, balance, and flexibility, with floor tumbling.
- Acro — Acrobatics class focuses on agility, coordination, balance, and flexibility. Class activities include floor tumbling, balancing exercises, and flexibility training.
- Hip-Hop — Focuses on popping, locking, and break dancing. Teachers focus on rhythmic qualities of music and learning to 'follow the leader.'
- Jazz — Jazz technique focuses on elements of weight, rhythm, and sharp movement qualities, with warm-up, isolations, and across-the-floor exercises.

About the provider
First Coast Center for the Arts is an inclusive, family-oriented studio where every dancer is welcomed, supported, and celebrated. All staff are certified in Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED.
Free trial classes are offered August-February. Trial classes are not offered March-June due to preparing for the annual recital. For dancers ages 9-18, placement private lessons are offered. Pointe placement requires instructor permission and previous ballet training. All staff is certified in Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED.
