Seacamp is a 60+ year old marine science summer camp and education center that has been serving 10 to 17 year old boys and girls since 1966 and is described as the longest running marine science camp in the country. Marine science courses are under the guidance of academically trained marine science instructors, biologists, geologists, and oceanographers. The organization was founded by Irene Hooper, later led by her sister, Grace Upshaw, and is now led by Grace’s son, Reece Spencer, and it is described as a family organization. Seacamp states that its programs and campus operate year-round with the mission to create awareness of the complex and fragile marine world and to foster critical thinking and informed decision making about humanity's use of natural resources. It is described as one of the few organizations in the United States providing experiential education in marine studies to students aged 10 to 21 years old.

The Newfound Harbor Marine Institute (NHMI), Seacamp’s school program started in 1970, offers marine science and environmental education field trips from September through May for students from 4th grade through college level, as well as teachers. Approximately 5,000 students, teachers, and parent chaperones participate in the NHMI program each year. The program offers Lifeguarding & CPR Certification through the American Red Cross. The online registration site contains information about transportation, what to bring, camp store credit, permission forms, and health forms.
