About
Science Camps at The Bishop includes days where campers explore, learn, create, investigate, craft, snack, and play. Depending on the week, campers may explore the red planet and learn new space travel skills, get up close to impressive prehistoric creatures by exploring museum fossils and exhibits, experience a sports-themed week focused on aspects of S.T.E.A.M. in baseball, explore bugs and insects, take a deep dive into oceans and explore ocean predators, conduct chemistry-focused experiments, explore the Museum collecting clues, and explore the variety of animals that call Florida home. Counselors in Training take part in hands-on learning, help implement hands-on activities and programming, and prepare and organize materials for daily camp activities.

The Planetarium at The Bishop is described as the premier astronomy facility on Florida’s west coast with a 50-foot full-dome theater, the Mosaic Backyard Universe is described as an interactive learning space called Southwest Florida’s coolest backyard, and the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat houses manatees that were rescued from the wild after they became sick or injured.
Counselors in Training are described as 13–17 years old, with a passion for science and/or education, with experience working with children listed as a plus, and must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and be able to have fun and be goofy. Counselors in Training can earn volunteer hours for academic programs and letters of recommendation for future jobs.
Families are asked to send a non-perishable lunch and snack that do not need to be refrigerated or microwaved, along with a refillable water bottle. Campers are asked to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can get dirty and to dress in layers because of hot temperatures outdoors and cold temperatures indoors, and families are asked to label all items and apply sunscreen before drop-off. Campers may bring a cell phone, but it must be put away in their bag or cubby during camp activities, and all other electronics and toys are asked to stay at home.
