About

The Summer Learning Institute takes place within the Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS) and uses museum spaces such as the Charles and Linda Williams Children's Museum, the Lowell and Nancy Lohman Family Planetarium, and the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art. Participants spend time in areas that include interactive science exhibits, a planetarium with a 40-foot dome and OmniStar digital projector, and galleries that house the most extensive collection of Florida art in the world, including over 2,600 Florida-themed oil and watercolor paintings dating back to the early 1800s. The program also has access to additional MOAS facilities such as the Root Family Museum, Tuscawilla Preserve, North Wing, L. Gale Lemerand Wing, Kim A. Klancke, M.D. and Marsha L. Klancke Environmental Education Complex in Tuscawilla Preserve, Helene B. Roberson Visible Storage Building, Root Wing, and West Wing.

The Museum of Arts & Sciences is a not-for-profit educational institution founded in 1955 and was chartered by the State of Florida in 1962. Its mission is to ignite curiosity and connection to art, science, and history that creates a lasting impact with its communities. The museum is nationally accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate. It is the primary art, science, and history museum in Central Florida and is the area’s largest museum. The Charles and Linda Williams Children's Museum is the first hands-on science center in Volusia County and is a 9,300 square-foot space with more than fifteen professionally designed interactive exhibits that demonstrate principles of science, engineering, and physics. The Helene B. Roberson Visible Storage Building is a 4,000 square-foot, glass-fronted, open storage facility for art and decorative objects and is the only such facility of its kind in Florida. The Summer Learning Institute is sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
