Kaiwa Art & Play Space is a creative learning studio and shop for kids art, sewing, and invention classes. It is an art, sewing, and invention studio for kids that opened in 2022 and was founded by Keara Trimmer in 2015 in Santa Cruz, California. Over four years in Santa Cruz, Kaiwa welcomed hundreds of students to explore making together. The name Kaiwa means “conversation” in Japanese.
The studio was founded by Keara Trimmer, who serves as founder and teacher and holds an MAEd. Keara has a Masters in Art Education from the University of Georgia and a Pre-K–12 teaching certificate, and has taught in many community and school settings for 14 years and counting.
Kaiwa Art & Play Space was founded out of a stated desire to inspire creative confidence in children and a love of creating. The program states that it believes children learn best when they have time and space to dream, share ideas, and experiment in a non-judgmental and nurturing environment. The teaching approach includes suggesting materials, asking questions, demonstrating new tools, and encouraging experimentation. The program states that it encourages children to work hard and do their best while having fun, and that children grow a sense of pride when they try something new and see the results of their work.
Kaiwa Art & Play Space states that it is excited to welcome the community and learn and create with budding artists, inventors, and makers in Central Florida.
